REFINE YOUR HEART
PATIENCE (Part 1)
بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

“The day when wealth and children will not benefit anyone except he who
will come to ALLAH with a Qalb-e-Saleem (sound, pure and clean heart).”
(Surah Shu’ara, Aayah 38-39).
Patience is the greatest of all good traits to purify ones heart of its
diseases like envy, arrogance, hatred etc. which make the heart impure,
unclean and diseased. patience is of many types and is required in all
aspects of life. If we think of obeying any rule, patience is required
in the foremost. Without patience it is not possible to stop oneself
from doing something. To Obey ALLAH's Commands we need patience, to
leave the pleasures and desires (when required) we need patience. Islam
exhort its followers to develop this great virtue, and all the religious
obligations and duties like prayer, fast, hajj etc teach us to be
patient.

The word patience means, Endurance, self-restraint, submission, the
ability to accept delay, trouble or suffering without becoming angry.

Patience in Islam is that we have full faith in ALLAH(SWT) and do what
He asks us to do, and refrain ourselves from what He asks us to stay
away from. It means to stop oneself from something which one likes or
dislikes for the sake of ALLAH, in order to fulfill His Commands. It
also means to control oneself from behaving negatively or transgressing
the limits set by ALLAH in all circumstances, no matter what their
nature be, and only act in accordance with which is better for this
world ‘duniya’ and the Hereafter ‘akhirah’.

Patience or 'sabr' is a great virtue indeed! It is an act of bravery and
not a cowardly act, (as some may think) to stop oneself from replying
back in a bad manner to someone’s torturing and disturbing remarks or
actions, to remain silent and smile at such a situation can be done by
great persons only and it is not a trait of ordinary people. The best
example for us is in the form of ALLAH’s Messenger (pbuh) as ALLAH
Himself addresses him in Surah Al-Ahzab verse 21 “Indeed in the
Messenger of ALLAH (Muhammad SAW) you have a good example to follow for
him who hopes in (the Meeting with) ALLAH and the Last Day and remembers
ALLAH much.” His life was a continues model of patience. One very
famous instance is about a lady who used to throw trash on the Prophet
(pbuh) out of spite she had for Islam and our beloved Prophet (pbuh) not
only endured patiently and did not show any negative reaction but when
that lady did not carry on her heinous act for some days, Prophet (pbuh)
inquired about her and found out that she was ill and he (pbuh) went to
see her and ask about her health, which impressed her so much that she
became a Muslim. And the famous incident that took place at Taif show
huge amount of patience which Prophet (pbuh) had and no common man can
match it even a little.
Surah At-Tur (no.52) was revealed in the most difficult situation in
Mecca. When Prophet Muhammad(SAW) was being targeted with objections and
accusations. The Quraish chiefs' attitude toward him(SAW) was very
hostile. They called him(SAW) a sorcerer, a mad man or a poet, and would
thus mislead the common people against him (SAW).
They looked upon him(SAW) as a calamity that had suddenly descended on
them. They accused him (SAW) of fabricating the Quran by himself (SAW).
They would often taunt him(SAW) saying that ALLAH could not have
appointed an ordinary man like him(SAW) to the office of Prophethood.
They showed great disgust at his(SAW) invitation and Message.
One can go on and on with numerous difficulties that Prophet
Muhammad(SAW) faced in the field of dawah'. And now see what ALLAH(SWT)
says at the end of this great Surah:

"So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs wherein
they shall sink into fainting with terror. The Day when their plotting
will avail them nothing and none will help them............ Therefore,
wait for the Judgement of your Rabb with PATIENCE, We are surely
watching over you. Glorify your Rabb with His praises when you wake up,
and glorify Him in a part of the night, and also as the stars fade
away." [52: 45 - 49]

ALLAH(SWT) has given a remedy for achieving patience and that is, His
Tasbeeh, Glorification which gives inner strength, and instead of taking
others to task (and drooping down to the same level) at their
misbehavior at every single instance, the matter should be left to
ALLAH, for He knows and sees everything and is the best of the Judge.

The Qur'an says: " O believers! Be patient, excel in patience, hold
yourself ready and have fear of ALLAH so that you may be successful."
[A'l-e-'Imran 3: 200]
"Whose hearts tremble at the mention of ALLAH; who endure adversity with
patience, who establish salah and spend in charity out of what We have
given them." [Al-Hajj 22: 35]

"If you have to retaliate, let your retaliation be commensurate with the
wrong which was done to you; but if you endure with patience, the best
reward indeed is for those who endure with patience." [An-Nahl 16: 126]
"Good deeds are not equal to evil ones. Repel evil deeds with good
deeds. You will see that he with whom you had enmity, will become your
close friend. But none will attain this quality except those who
patiently endure and none will attain this quality who are truly
fortunate." [Fussilat 41: 34, 35]

Patience asks for endurance and steadfastness, and true patience is at
the first stroke of a calamity and not after reacting in an
uncontrollable manner first and then deciding to calm down and be
patient, Thabit (R.A) narrated that, “I heard Anas (R.A) say that
Prophet (pbuh) said that, ‘Patience is at the first stroke of a
calamity.”’

ALLAH says; "We shall surely test your steadfastness with fear and
famine, with loss of property, life and produce. Give good news to those
who endure with patience.' [Al-Baqarah 2: 155 - 157]

Rasoolullah (SAW) said (narrated by Abu Yahya Suhaib bin Sinan (R.A)
"How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in
everything and this applies only to a believer. If prosperity attends
him, he expresses gratitude to ALLAH and that is good for him; and if
adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is better for
him." [Muslim]

It is not easy to remain in oneself when one encounters great losses in
life. And the price of Jannah is also not less, so if one struggles to
achieve the great quality of being patient then the reward is also
abundant which is in form of Jannah.
Abu Huraira(R.A) reported The Messenger of ALLAH said: "ALLAH the
Exalted says: 'I have no other reward other than Jannah for a believing
slave of Mine who remains patient for My sake when I take away his
beloved on from among the inhabitants of the world." [Al-Bukahari]

Abu Sa'id and Abu Huraira (R.A.H) reported that the Prophet(SAW) said:
"Never a believer is stricken with discomfort, an illness, an anxiety, a
grief or mental worry or even the pricking of a thorn but ALLAH will
expiate his sins on account of his patience." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

ALLAH(SWT) says: "O' You who believe! seek My help with Patience and
prayer; surely ALLAH is with those who are patient." [Al-Baqarah 2: !53]
ALLAH (SWT) tests us with the loses of life, and tells us in the Quran
that, Don’t think you'll enter Jannah without being tested for your
faith. So these turmoils in life, if taken patiently with Iman will
guarantee Jannah. Insha ALLAH.

ALLAH knows best

Types of Hearts

Just as the
heart may be described in terms of being alive or dead, it may also be
regarded as belonging to one of three types; these are the healthy
heart, the dead heart, and the sick heart.

The Healthy Heart

On the Day of Resurrection, only those who come to Allah with a healthy heart will be saved. Allah says: "The day on which neither wealth nor sons will be of any use, except for whoever brings to Allah a sound heart. (26:88-89)"

In defining the healthy heart, the
following has been said: "It is a heart cleansed from any passion that
challenges what Allah commands, or disputes what He forbids. It is free
from any impulses which contradict His good. As a result, it is
safeguarded against the worship of anything other than Him, and seeks
the judgment of no other except that of His Messenger (s). Its services
are exclusively reserved for Allah, willingly and lovingly, with total
reliance, relating all matters to Him, in fear, hope and sincere
dedication. When it loves, its love is in the way of Allah. If it
detests, it detests in the light of what He detests. When it gives, it
gives for Allah. If it withholds, it withholds for Allah. Nevertheless,
all this will not suffice for its salvation until it is free from
following, or taking as its guide, anyone other than His Messenger (s).
Those who follow the Prophet (s) in observing his Sunnah and the Shari`ah are guides to those who had not met him (s).

A servant with a healthy heart must
dedicate it to its journey's end and must not give precedence to any
other faith or words or deeds over those of Allah and His Messenger, may
Allah bless him and grant him peace and those who are rightly guided,
keeping the Prophetic example. Allah says:

"Oh you who believe, do not put yourselves above Allah and His Messenger, but fear Allah, for Allah is Hearing, Knowing. (49:1)"

The Dead Heart

This is the opposite of the healthy
heart. It does not know its Lord and does not worship Him as He
commands, in the way which He likes, and with which He is pleased. It
clings instead to its lusts and desires, even if these are likely to
incur Allah's displeasure and wrath. It worships things other than
Allah, and its loves and its hatreds, and its giving and its
withholding, arise from its whims, which are of paramount importance to
it and preferred above the pleasure of Allah. Its whims are its imam.
Its lust is its guide. Its ignorance is its leader. Its crude impulses
are its impetus. It is immersed in its concern with worldly objectives.
It is drunk with its own fancies and its love for hasty, fleeting
pleasures.

It is called to Allah and the akhira from
a distance but it does not respond to advice, and instead it follows
any scheming, cunning shaytan. Life angers and pleases it, and passion
makes it deaf and blind1 to anything except what is evil.

To associate and keep company with the
owner of such a heart is to tempt illness: living with him is like
taking poison, and befriending him means utter destruction.

The Sick Heart

This is a
heart with life in it, as well as illness. The former sustains it at one
moment, the latter at another, and it follows whichever one of the two
manages to dominate it. It has love for Allah, faith in Him, sincerity
towards Him, and reliance upon Him, and these are what give it life. It
also has a craving for lust and pleasure, and prefers them and strives
to experience them. It is full of self-admiration, which can lead to its
own destruction. It listens to two callers: one calling it to Allah and
His Prophet (s) and the afterlife (akhira); and
the other calling it to the fleeting pleasures of this world. It
responds to whichever one of the two happens to have most influence over
it at the time.

The first heart is alive, submitted to
Allah, humble, sensitive and aware; the second is brittle and dead; the
third wavers between either its safety or its ruin.

Symptoms Of the Heart's Sickness and Signs of Its Health

"He it is Who sent down
calmness and tranquillity into the hearts of the believers, that they
may grow more in Faith along with their (present) Faith. And to Allah
belong the hosts of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is Ever
Al-Knower, All-Wise
." The Holy Quran: 48:4

Four-Symptoms Of the Heart's Sickness and Signs of Its Health

The Signs of a Sick Heart

A servant's heart may be ill, and
seriously deteriorating, while he remains oblivious of its condition. It
may even die without him realising it. The symptoms of its sickness, or
the signs of its death, are that its owner is not aware of the harm
that results from the damage caused by wrong actions, and is unperturbed
by his ignorance of the truth or by his false beliefs.

Since the living heart experiences pain
as a result of any ugliness that it encounters and through its
recognising its ignorance of the truth (to a degree that corresponds to
its level of awareness), it is capable of recognising the onset of
decay-and the increase in the severity of the remedy that will be needed
to stop it-but then sometimes it prefers to put up with the pain rather
than undergo the arduous trial of the cure!

Some of the many signs of the heart's
sickness if its turning away from good foods to harmful ones, from good
remedies to shameful sickness. The healthy heart prefers what is
beneficial and healing to what is harmful and damaging; the sick heart
prefers the opposite. The most beneficial sustenance for the heart is
faith and the best medicine is the Qur'an.

The Signs of a Healthy Heart

For the
heart to be healthy it should depart from this life and arrive in the
next, and then settle there as if it were one of its people; it only
came to this life as a passer-by, taking whatever provisions it needed
and then returning home. As the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant
him peace, said to Abdullah ibn Umar, "Be in this world as if you were a
stranger or a passer-by."2 The more diseased the heart is, the more it
desires this world; it dwells in it until it becomes like one of its
people.

The healthy heart continues to trouble
its owner until he returns to Allah, and is at peace with Him, and
reaches Him, like a lover driven by compulsion who finally reaches his
beloved. Besides his love for Him he needs no other, and after invoking
Him no other invocations are needed. Serving Him precludes the need to
serve any other.

If this heart misses its share of reciting the Qur'an and invoking Allah (dhikrullah),
or completing one of the prescribed acts of worship, then its owner
suffers more distress than a cautious man who suffers because of the
loss of money or a missed opportunity to make it. It longs to serve,
just as a famished person longs for food and drink.

Yahya ibn Mu'adh said:

Whoever is pleased with serving Allah,
everything will be pleased to serve him; and whoever finds pleasure in
contemplating Allah, all the people will find pleasure in contemplating
him.

This heart has only one concern: that all
its actions, and its inner thoughts and utterances, are obedient to
Allah. It is more careful with its time than the meanest people are with
their money, so that it will not be spent wastefully. When it enters
into the prayer, all its worldly worries and anxieties vanish and it
finds its comfort and bliss in adoring its Lord. It does not cease to
mention Allah, nor tire of serving Him, and it finds intimate company
with no-one save a person who guides it to Allah and reminds it to Him.

Its attention to the correctness of its
action is greater than its attention to the action itself. It is
scrupulous in making sure that the intentions behind its actions are
sincere and pure and that they result in good deeds.

As well as and in spite of all this, it
not only testifies to the generosity of Allah in giving it the
opportunity to carry out such actions, but also testifies to its own
imperfection and shortcomings in executing them.

The Causes of Sickness of the Heart

The temptations to which the heart is
exposed are what cause its sickness. These are the temptations of
desires and fancies. The former cause intentions and the will to be
corrupted, and the latter cause knowledge and belief to falter.

Hudhayfa ibn al-Yamani, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

The Messenger of Allah (s) said, "Temptations
are presented to the heart, one by one. Any heart that accepts them
will be left with a black stain, but any heart that rejects them will be
left with a mark of purity, so that hearts are of two types: a dark
heart that has turned away and become like an overturned vessel, and a
pure heart that will never be harmed by temptation for as long as the
earth and the heavens exist. The dark heart only recognises good and
denounces evil when this suits its desires and whims.
3

He, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, placed hearts, when exposed to temptation, into two categories:

First, a heart which, when it is exposed
to temptation, absorbs it like a sponge that soaks up water, leaving a
black stain in it. It continues to absorb each temptation that is
offered to it until it is darkened and corrupted, which is what he meant
by "like an overturned vessel". When this happens, two dangerous
sicknesses take hold of it and plunge it into ruin:

The first is that of its confusing good
with evil, to such an extent that it does not recognise the former and
does not denounce the latter. This sickness may even gain hold of it to
such an extent that it believes good to be evil and vice-versa, the Sunnah to be bida' and vice-versa, the truth to be false and falsity to be the truth.

The second is that of its setting up its
desires as its judge, over and above what the Prophet (s) taught, so
that it is enslaved and led by its whims and fancies.

Second, a pure heart which the light of
faith is bright and from which its radiance shines. When temptation is
presented to pure hearts such this, they oppose it and reject it, and so
their light and illumination only increase.

Refine Your Heart
Justice
بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

“O you who believe! Stand out firmly for
justice, as witnesses to ALLAH, even if it be against yourselves, your
parents, and your relatives, or whether it is against the rich or the
poor...” (Quran 4:135)

This verse of the Qur’an explains
comprehensively the meaning of justice. Justice in only done when it is
impartial and without any favoritism to anyone on any basis like close
blood relation, dear ones or the high or low ranking. Remaining unbiased
while doing justice is the core element of Justice and without this
basic component, it is not Justice but becomes oppression.

For achieving a pure, satisfied and
refined heart it is important that one acts in harmony with the Word of
ALLAH, for it is a means of refining the hearts and finding serenity.
While vice make the hearts diseased and unhealthy, all virtues bring
peace and tranquility, a prerequisite for a sound and healthy heart, and
only a sound heart can benefit in this world and the hereafter, “The
day when wealth and children will not benefit anyone except he who will
come to ALLAH with a Qalb-e-Saleem (sound, pure and clean heart).”
(Surah Shu’ara, Aayah 88-89).

ALLAH says: "… without doubt in the
remembrance of ALLAH do hearts find tranquility" (Quran 13:28). A heart
that remembers ALLAH much will only be contented when the Orders of
ALLAH are not just recited repeatedly, but are brought in action too.
ALLAH loves to do justice and likes to see justice being done, and
Rewards it greatly.

ALLAH spoke to His Messenger:
“O My slaves, I have forbidden injustice
for Myself and forbade it also for you. So avoid being unjust to one
another.” (Saheeh Muslim)

The Prophet (pbuh) declared:
“There are seven categories of people
whom ALLAH will shelter under His shade on the Day when there will be no
shade except His. [One is] the just leader.”(Saheeh Muslim)
Justice represents moral rectitude and
fairness, it means things should be where they belong with no tampering
done at any cost, even if one has to go against one’s own interests or
those who are very close and dear. The following hadith shows us a
brilliant example how to go about while doing justice.

'Urwa related from 'A'isha that Quraysh
were concerned with the case of a Makhzumi woman (from a nobel family)
who had stolen something and they said, "Who will speak to the Messenger
of ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, about her (for
relieving her of punishment)?" They said, "Who is bold enough to do it
except Usama ibn Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH
bless him and grant him peace?" Usama spoke to him and the Messenger of
ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, said, "How can you
intercede when it is a case of one of the legal punishments of ALLAH
Almighty?" Then he stood up and spoke and said, "Those before you were
destroyed because when a noble among them stole, they let him be, but
when the weak among them stole, they carried out the legal punishment on
them. By ALLAH, if Fatima the daughter of Muhammad were to steal,
Muhammad would cut off her hand."

Justice a basic objective of Islam:
The Quran considers justice to be a supreme virtue and a basic objective of Islam.

“ALLAH commands justice and fair dealing...” (Quran 16:90)

Another passage says:
“O you who believe, be upright for ALLAH, and (be) bearers of witness with justice!...” (Quran 5:Cool

Therefore, one may conclude that justice
is an obligation of Islam and injustice is forbidden. The purpose of
sending the Messengers and the scriptures was no more than that to give a
guideline to withhold everything at its due place, without decreasing
or increasing its status and thus maintaining justice. ALLAH says:

“We sent Our Messengers with clear signs
and sent down with them the Book and the Measure in order to establish
justice among the people…” (Quran 57:25)

Fairness in Justice:
The Quranic standards of justice
transcend considerations of race, religion, color, and creed, as Muslims
are commanded to be just to their friends and foes alike, and to be
just at all levels, as the Quran puts it:

“Let not the hatred of a people swerve you away from justice. Be just, for this is closest to righteousness…” (Quran 5:Cool

With regards to relations with non-Muslims, the Quran further states:
“ALLAH does not forbid you from doing
good and being just to those who have neither fought you over your faith
nor evicted you from your homes...” (Quran 60:Cool

“…If you judge, judge between them with justice…” (Quran 5:42)

“We have revealed to you the scripture
with the truth that you may judge between people by what ALLAH has
taught you.” (Quran 4:105)

The Prophet (PBUH) was sent as a judge between people:
“…Say: I believe in the Scripture, which ALLAH has sent down, and I am commanded to judge justly between you...” (Quran 42:15)

“ALLAH commands you to render trusts to whom they are due, and when you judge between people, judge with justice…” (Quran 4:58)

The Quran tells the believers:
“…When you speak, speak with justice, even if it is against someone close to you…” (Quran 6:152)
“…Be just, for it is closest to God-consciousness…” (Quran 5:Cool

“And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Word.” (Quran 6:115)

Good Conduct

“The Jannah is prepared for those… who repress anger, and who pardon men.” (3:134)

Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h. said: The Muslim is the one from whose hands
and tongue other Muslims are safe, and the immigrant is he who abandons
what ALLAH forbids. When the Messenger p.b.u.h. was asked: Which Islam
is better? He said the same thing. And when a man asked the Prophet the
same question the Prophet answered: That you provide food, deliver the
salutation of peace upon those you know or you don't know. Thus the fact
is the same about Islam or iman. In other words that there should be
action, or behavior that confirms faith in the heart of a believer so
that his Islam is reflected in good deeds, peace, and blessings in his
movements and words. Thus he would harm or hurt no one, he would destroy
no buildings and would do no wrong nor take the right of any one. On
the contrary he would be a strong and useful member of his society. This
is clear in the Prophet's sayings mentioned earlier which assert that
the best Muslims are those who fulfil the rights of ALLAH as well as the
rights of other people.

Good conduct is the foundation for the fulfilment of one’s obligations
to ALLAAH and to other human beings. Good conduct increases ones rank in
the sight of ALLAAH and erases one’s misdeeds. Aa’ishah, may ALLAAH be
pleased with her, related that she heard the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi
wa sallam saying: “A believer achieves by his good conduct the same
reward as a person who fasts much and prays (the voluntary prayer)
during the night.” (Abu Dawood).

The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam also said: “Nothing is heavier
on the scale of a believing slave (of ALLAAH) on the Day of
Resurrection than good conduct. Indeed ALLAAH dislikes the rude and
disrespectful.” (At-Tirmidhi).

In His Glorious Book, ALLAAH says that which translates as:
“…And do not approach immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed …” (Al-An’am: 151).

“Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good and turn away from the ignorant.” (Al-A’raf: 199).

“And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that
[deed] which is better; and thereupon, the one whom between you and him
is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.” (Fussilat:
34),

“…And lower your wing [i.e., show them kindness] to the believers.” (Al-Hijr: 88).

From the Sunnah, it is reported that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa
sallam said: “I am the guarantor of a home in the upper part of Paradise
for whomsoever possesses good conduct.” (Abu Dawood). He sallallaahu
‘alaihi wa sallam also said: “Shall I not tell you of the person for
whom Hell is forbidden? – Hell is forbidden for every person who is
tolerant, unpretentious and pleasant.” (At-Tirmidhi).

‘Aa’ishah, may ALLAAH be pleased with her, narrated that the Prophet
sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “Gentleness does not but adorn one’s
deeds and when something is devoid of gentleness, it becomes
disfigured.” (Muslim). Nawwaas bin Sam‘an, may ALLAAH be pleased with
him, said: “I asked the Messenger of ALLAAH sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa
sallam about righteousness and sin and he replied: "Righteousness is
good conduct and sin is something that is deeply rooted in your heart
which you would not like anybody else to know about.”" (Muslim).

Anas (May ALLAH be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of ALLAH (PBUH) was the best of all the people in behaviour.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Anas (May ALLAH be pleased with him) reported: I never felt any piece of
velvet or silk softer than the palm of the Messenger of ALLAH (PBUH),
nor did I smell any fragrance more pleasant than the smell of Messenger
of ALLAH (PBUH). I served him for ten years, and he never said `Uff’ (an
expression of disgust) to me. He never said `why did you do that?’ for
something I had done, nor did he ever say `why did you not do such and
such’ for something I had not done.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`as (May ALLAH be pleased with them) reported:
Messenger of ALLAH (PBUH) did not indulge in loose talk nor did he like
to listen to it. He used to say, “The best of you is the best among you
in conduct.”
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Abu Hurairah (May ALLAH be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of
ALLAH (PBUH) was asked about the deed which will be foremost to lead a
man to Jannah. He replied, “Fear of ALLAH and the good conduct.” Then he
was asked about indulgence which will admit a man to Hell (Fire) and he
answered, “The tongue and the genitals.”
[At-Tirmidhi].

Abu Hurairah (May AlLAH be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of
ALLAH (PBUH) said, “The most perfect man in his faith among the
believers is the one whose behaviour is most excellent; and the best of
you are those who are the best to their wives.”
[At-Tirmidhi].

Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (May ALLAH be pleased with him) reported: Messenger
of ALLAH (PBUH) said, “I guarantee a house in Jannah for one who gives
up arguing, even if he is in the right; and I guarantee a home in the
middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun;
and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has
good manners.”
[Abu Dawud].

Jabir (May ALLAH be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of ALLAH
(PBUH) said, “The dearest and nearest among you to me on the Day of
Resurrection will be one who is the best of you in manners; and the most
abhorrent among you to me and the farthest of you from me will be the
pompous, the garrulous, and Al-Mutafaihiqun.” The Companions asked him:
“O Messenger of ALLAH! We know about the pompous and the garrulous, but
we do not know who Al-Mutafaihiqun are.” He replied: “The arrogant
people.”
[At-Tirmidhi].
