اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ (54:1)
54:1 (Asad) THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! [1]
The Dictionary meanings of the English words:
nigh = near;
cleft = divided, split.
asunder = into two or more parts, into pieces.
The people of Mecca asked Allah's Apostle to show them a miracle. So he showed them the moon split in two halves between which they saw the Hira'h mountain

Narrated Anas bin Malik:
The people of Mecca asked Allah's Apostle to show them a miracle. So he showed them the moon split in two halves between which they saw the Hiram' mountain.
